This Javelin has been completely disassembled by the owner and is ready for paint stripping.
The body panels have been stripped. Next the car will be mounted on a rotisserie and the remaining areas will be sandblasted. The windshield will be removed before blasting.
The body is mounted on the rotisserie and the remaining paint and undercoating is sandblasted.
The rusted spots were cut out and replaced with new patch panels. The inside of the panels are undercoated before before welding in place.
The bottom half of the door gap was too wide so a piece of 1/8" rod was welded to the back edge of the fender and then ground down where needed to make a consistent door gap.
Body filler has been applied to this side of the car and is ready for high build primer and blocksanding.
The driver's door needs some surgery to fit properly. The door has a twist in it, so that when the front edge is flush with the front fender the bottom half at the back is out by about 3/16". The door jamb will be cut on the felt marker line which extends about halfway underneath as well. By taking a thin slice out of the jamb the outer section can be pushed in flush and welded in the proper position. In this case there was some natural tension on the door so that as the cut was made the outer section naturally moved into position.
Now there is a proper fit.
The next issue with this door is there is no gap at the bottom edge. While the top edge is aligned and also the center body line aligned the bottom is tight with the rocker panel. So again, the same technique as before. A cut will be made the entire length of the rocker to allow the top of the rocker to lowered creating the proper gap. BTW, the large front fender gap is only because the fender is loose to be able to make the cut.
More photos to come as work continues.
