This car is getting a complete body restore and paint.
After the body panels are stripped of paint, the car is taken to sandblast the rest.
The top of this fender needs to be replaced. It is very rusted and previously patched. It will be cut out and a new panel formed and welded in.
The bottom of the fender also needs to be replaced.
The rocker panel behind the fender was also repaired. A new lower mount was fabricated to accept two bolts in the bottom of the fender. This prevents the fender from flexing. Previously it had only one bolt and tack welded to the rocker to prevent flexing. Now it will no longer need the tack weld.
The lower fender panel is formed and ready to install.
The inside of the passenger floor also needs some attention.
The bottom corner of each door needed patch panels to repair the rust.
The jack locations on each side were damaged. They were cut out, straightened and reinforced on the back side, then welded back into place.
Again, more rusted areas are cut out and replaced with new metal. The bottom corners of the rear window needed replacement.
More of the car parts are sandblasted.
The front hood and fender trim is mocked up for fitment. Some slicing and dicing was required to get trim to align properly.
Wheels have been sandblasted and are now painted.
This section of the rocker panel will be replaced with new metal.
A replacement quarter panel is temporarily fastened into position. The outer wheelhouse fenders are rusted away and need to be rebuilt. The outer edges of the wheelhouse are fabricated and fastened to the quarter panel with Clecos. While the panel is in place, multiple temporary brackets are welded to hold the outer edges in place when the panel is removed. Once the edge is supported in place the quarter panel is removed and the wheelhouse can be finished.
New trunk drops were fabricated as well.
The inside is undercoated to protect from moisture before the quarter panel is welded in place.
More photos to come as work progresses…
